I am trying to use my iChat video with my friend who has a PC and is using AIM. It stop after I accept and says there was a communication error. What could be the problem?

What happens with me is that no one ever sees that I'm requesting permission from them. This seems like a REALLY obvious bug that needs to be fixed.

Yea it appears to be a problem with me as well. This is very frustrating.

9 times out of ten, it's the Windows users' firewall settings that are ****ing things up.
Check the iChat help; it gives instructions on which ports have to be open for video chat via AIM to work.

iChat Help doesn't even mention AIM and video. It says for a video chat you need a Mac.

Huh.
Try entering "firewall" in the iChat help.
Shows several Support articles for me.

I don't think iChatAV and AIM will work. I have had success with iChatAV and Trillian Pro. But now, I just use Skype.

the video feature of my iChat has NEVER worked, even with people with MacBooks in the same room as me. I pretty much assumed it was a bust all the way around

Your install is ****ed up.
iChat video works fine, both on a local network, and on the intarweb.
My video stopped working once, though, when I got a new router - D-Link DI-624 ****ed it up.
Supposedly, it works fine once UPnP ("universal" plug and pray) is switched off in the router, but I got rid of it before I could test that.

It works fine with iChat on "tha intarweb" but AIM compatibility is very spotty, if at all existent.
