My iPhoto has recently stopped allowing me to empty its Trash, and I have a growing collection of images I want to expunge.

When I try to empty the trash, iPhoto crashes now, but all other features work fine. In iPhoto, the Trash has a number of dotted squares that represent images, but the originals are still in their folders on the computer - ie not deleted from iPhoto or the computer.

I figure reinstalling iPhoto might help, but I don't have an iLife disk, just the system disk that came with the apps. What's the best way to reinstall iPhoto, or fix my trash issue?

You should find it on the discs that came with your computer.

You can do a custom install, where you only install the applications you want. Check the manual that came with the computer, go through the custom install, check iLife, click, and done. But check first if it is IPhoto's fault.
