OK, so it doesn't run. But what if I buy iLife 08, and don't have iMovie installed already? Does it do nothing, or install iMovie 06?

So if I'm upgrading from 05 to 08, I'll get no iMovie?

iLife '08 users can download iMovie HD 6 from Apple.

I have a G4 and installed this morning, iLife08, it guided me through without installing iMovie08.
I updated right away and all works perfect. So I cant say anything bad even thought it is somewhat of a disapointement to see that I cant use iMovie08 which seems like the best addition to the iLife suite!

Take care

Unless they stripped out the PPC non-64 bit stuff from the executable, I'd give it 4 days until iMovie '08 is "running" on a G4.

The G4 is too slow. In theory you could install it, if you could hijack the installer, which wouldn't be too hard. I don't know that anyone has done it, or if they even would, because it would not be usable anyway.

Yea, if you install it there's about 4 checks in the program from what I see. It will launch and tell you that you can not run it, so they did not cut out the PPC32 part of the fat binary from what I can tell. (If it did not exist, it would simply fail upon launch with a Mach-O failure). Now that I've seen it run on a G5, though, I would not want to try and run it on a G4. I'm sure it is technically possible, but it would be rather painful.

Apple is a hardware company folks. Their software will after a few years REQUIRE higher end. Not because they could actually make it work decently, but because they need them computer sales.

While this is not the ONLY reason, it is A reason Apple does this.
