iTunes - Recovering Library Data

I recently suffered a grizzly hardrive failure on my trusty G4 pb, which ended up with the installation of a completely new internal drive, and I'm in the reocvery process, trying to reinstate my music library.

All my music was stored on an external drive, but while re-adding the files in the iTunes folder to iTunes on the new internal drive works, it also results in the library appearing without any of the data (playlists, ratings and so on) that used to be stored with it. None of this is an issue apart from one thing - I really, really want to recover the the 'date added' data from the original library (at present 'date added' is the date I re-added the library).

Is there a simple way to do this? - I've managed to recover most of the data from the original internal drive, so I could probably find any relevant files if they were stored there. I've given it a go but to no avail so far - the one method I've come accross involves editing the iTunes itl file, and alas recovers everything except the original date-added data.

Many thanks,

Castell

Did you try going..

-File
- Add to Library

iTunes uses a very weird cataloging system, it sorts everything in a very weird numbers format i.e. 01, 10, 39.
Try doing that, also try manually dragging your music folders into the library window.

Thanks for replying. I did try 'add to library' and it works, minus the library data (ie. 'date added' fields, which I'm concerned about here, are all set to today's dates, rather than those of the original library.

It's probably a funny thing to be concerned about, but I've been building my library over quite a time, and I used the 'date added' field as the primary way of organising/navigating the library (by remembering where I was when I bought a particular album, etc).

I guess what I want to know is if there's a way to go back into the old itunes files and recover the 'date added' information for the library, and install it - with all the music - in the new library....
