Ok, sometimes you have a video you find online that for whatever reasons, you need to download. I'm assuming you aren't breaking any copyrights, but ther are valid times when you need to be able to stare a video for offline viewing (help setting up internet, for example...)

Either way, many people do not know it's posisble to actually download any youtube video, so here, I made a video showing you how (and yes, I hosted it on YouTube. Feel free to download my video to test it. )

Anyway, I hope this helps someone.

Thanks.

QuickTime will not open it.

However you can import it into Flash.

I tried to export it as a Quicktime movie but it failed with an error message saying QT does not support this type of Flash movie. Any idea how to get around that?

VLC errored when I tried to open it.

No idea how to get around the QT thing, I never try opening it in that.

As for VLC erroring, occasionally it'l pup up an error on the first open. I just hit dismiss all, and it will then just play normally, have you tired that?

You would need to install Perian to make Quicktime play flvs.

To download flv videos with a single (middle mouse button) click, get SafariStand.

No didn't work.

"ffmpeg: more than 5 seconds of late video -> dropping frame (computer too slow ?)"

Oddly enough if I preview it in Finder in column view, the preview plays!

Finder seems to indicate that it is SAFlashPlayer that is doing the playing but when I "open with..." SAFlashPlayer it doesn't open it!

Weird.

Perian 1.0 works fine Moonray, I had an older version installed but I updated.

I was able to export to .mp4 from QuickTime then, but the file size more than doubled.

SafariStand works only with Safari 3 beta which I don't have installed and shan't till it is out of beta.

Look for http://hetima.com/safari/stand/SafariStand2.0b17.zip. Works fine here with Safari 2.

As I understood what it was saying on the site, the version 2 doesn't have all the features.

But maybe I got that wrong.

Weird, I have Perian installed as well too, it still won't play it. That said, VLC is good to have anyway, it'll play a nice variety of formats.
