I've been a long time fan of Acid Search but I'd really like to move to the Safari Beta and Acid Search is not yet available. That got me thinking, rather than using a plug in (although if any are available that offer this functionality I'd like to know) is it possible to add various search engines ourselves?

I really like being able to acces IMDB, YouTube, Wiki etc all from the Safari search bar and it's not a feature I can really do without.

Does anyone have any ideas?

This is what I do... Search using several engines at once - MacNN Forums

Can be used in Safari, Camino, OmniWeb, and Firefox. Possibly others.

Adding to zro's link, I added a post over there, but in case you miss it, I just wanted to add it here as well:

This is just a little shortcut/trick I stumbled across and use all the time now.

once you have the bookmark in your bookmarks... if you then drag it to your bookmarks bar to the beginning of your list of bookmarks, you can now use a builtin shortcut.

The first bookmark in your bookmark bar (that isn't a folder) is OPTION + 1, the second OPTION+2.. and so on. I use that to get back to my home page (iGoogle) and for TinyURL, two sites I use frequently each hour.

Just an update, inquisitor, Inquisitor 3. Spotlight for the web. now offers the ability to add search engines. Not as easy as Acid Search but at least it's there. Works perfectly in Leopard.
