The list of incremental backup is getting long.

I was wondering if I could safely delete older incremental backups.

just want to retain the Full backup and the last incremental backup.
is this possible? Is it safe to delete older incremental backups?

No.

Incremental backups save everything from the last increment, not from the last full backup. If you delete increments inbetween, you lose backups of the latest revision of some files (those changed before the last incremental backup but after the full backup). You need to make a new full backup, then you can delete anything before.

I was wondering the same thing. I use an internal 250GB drive and have to delete all of the backups about every 2 weeks, perform a full backup, and start the process over. It's set to just backup my Home folder.

Are you talking about the .Mac Backup application??? If so you have to manage the backups yourself. Maybe this thread has useful information for you.
