Having upgraded to iLife 08 and purchased iWork 08, I am finding the "instant alpha" feature for removing backgrounds to images in Pages and Keynote very useful, and am wondering why this feature is not in iPhoto? Given that it can be used to remove unwanted parts of images in the iWork programs, it would seem a natural for iPhoto, or am I missing something?

It doesn't make much sense for iPhoto, because it isn't a compositing application.

I take your point, but it is an image program with some degree of manipulation, and I would like the ability to remove certain backgrounds. I'd be a happy camper even if I could do it in one of the iWork programs and then save the image seperately, but don't know how to achieve that......

It appears Pages does not save these changes in the document package (like it does not save rotated pictures) but calculates them anew every time.

You could try and give Apple feedback abut this.
