When I go to .Mac to register a personal domain I get this:

Go to your registrar's website. Define web.mac.com as the "www" CNAME (alias) for your domain. If you need help creating a CNAME, contact your registrar.
What does this mean? How do I do this in iWeb?

They let you use an existing domain... they don't provide registry services.
