I need to be able to create and save PDFs but would prefer not to shell out the cash for Acrobat. I checked Open Office but it doesn't save as a PDF. Anything out there that is free or cheap?

Um, OpenOffice.org does export PDFs (not just NeoOffice but the X11 version as well, and using its own PDF creation routine and not OS X's print mechanism). A toolbar button also exists for the feature.
