my mbp took a spill a few days ago and now mac os x wont recognize it. if i pop the drive in an external case, is there any software that could somehow force a mount, or search for recoverable files even if the drive wont mount and isnt seen?

if its worth anything, i know the hard drive is working cuz i could feel it spin during start up but it wont mount using disk utility or the install discs. thanks for any help and thoughts.

i downloaded that a few days ago and i don't understand how it'd work for my situation. i run it and it asks me to choose the hard drive i wanna recover info off of, but if that hard drive doesn't mount...what am i supposed to choose?

iREZ, check to see if the fall hasn't simply dislodged the data cable from the hard drive. If the data cable is firmly connected, then the fall may have instead damaged the servo mechanism and/or read/write head, in which case you'll need to send out your drive to a hard drive recovery service to have them swap out the platters into a new drive mechanism (and in clean room conditions). Trying to access a physically damaged drive may actually cause data loss.
