Hello all, first time posting here.

I have some very specific needs when it comes to organizing and using my videos and I'm having a hard time trying to learn the basics of video making AND finding a software that is simple to use and does the job.

Basically I need a software (or more than one?) that copies segments of DVD movies (not necessairly chapters) - allowing me to specify starting and ending time. I need it to copy the segment with subtitles, if possible. (I'm an ESL teacher in Brazil and I use my powerbook plugged to the tv in class, but nothing is more annoying than having to carry my DVDs, go through thousands of menus and still have to forward to a specific scene to show my students)

My Powerbook does not have a DVD burner, bad decision making when I bought it...

Can anyone suggest any software?

Cheers,
Lily

You could try Handbrake. It's great at converting individual chapters on DVDs to a file on your Mac, but it doesn't support using time segments as a designation for conversion. You could use Handbrake and convert the chapter with the scene(s) you want to a format editable in QuickTime Pro, iMovie, or Final Cut and edit the chapter down to the example you want to show. A bit labor intensive, but I don't know of any application that does it 'all-in-one.'

Handbrake does seem to do the job - thanks Q!

Any other software that I could use to remove unwanted parts of the chapters I ripped? I mean, cutting bits and putting the parts I want together.

Cheers,
Lily
