Hope you enjoy. Thanks.

Hehe, I still don't think I've yet seen a single positive review of iMovie '08.

God, I hope Apple fixes that app by the next release. iMovie used to be one of the major draws to the Mac platform.

edit: I wonder how much Microsoft paid that scuba-diving Apple engineer for this bit of sabotage, anyway?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Having almost never using iMovie '06 or earlier incarnations of the application (I used it very briefly a while ago), I love iMovie '08. So easy to make a basic movie with ample tweaking IMO. I will watch the youtube video later on.

One step forward, two steps back. iMovie 08 is probably heading into the right direction, but it's a painful path for those who already were where iMovie 06 was.

Fixes? It's not broken, it's just different.

So keep using iMovie '06.

I don't understand the iMovie '08 bashing. It does what it does extremely well. I forced myself to use it (I teach iMovie/iDVD classes for the shop I work in) and except for the lack of video effects, it's another killer app.

Nice review. For your tutorials though I'd recommend lowering the resolution to something like 800x600.

And except for the lack of video effects...

... well, and except for the lack of ability to separate audio and video tracks. And except for the lack of multiple audio channels. And except for the ability to split video clips. According to this review, except for the voiceover feature working properly. And of course, except for the timeline...

This app just doesn't seem anywhere near as useful as the old one. You can say "Just use iMovie '06 then", but do you really think it's going to be available forever? Plus, iMovie was always a draw to the Mac platform. It always received much better reviews than Windows Movie Maker as a way for non-film experts to edit video. Considering how crippled the new version is, I really don't think we can say it's that much better than WMM anymore. And how many average users are going to know about the availability of the old version, or that it's better? They'll just think iMovie is an overhyped, overrated product. And it's sad, because iMovie was always one of the Mac's outstanding features.
