I've just upgraded to iPhoto '08, and it appears to me that it duplicated some, but not all, of my pictures. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? I hope I can just delete the duplicates without causing any problems, because I've already deleted some.

Yes, I have. I have the option to not move original files to the iPhoto library selected, yet in the process of importing, rather than using EXIF data to rotate images on the fly (like every other image viewing software for the last 5 years) it creates a rotated duplicate of all "vertical" photos.

That doesn't sound like the problem I am having. In fact, I have looked at the photos again, and I am no longer certain that it has to do with the iPhoto '08 upgrade. Somehow it seems that some of my photos were imported twice, but the second import date isn't the same as the upgrade date.
