^ That there is $25.

This here ain't:
Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes ♫ Welcome

Free, excellent, and VERY versatile.

Something for virtually every iTunes need.

Search the site for "duplicate" and you will find several free Applescripts for dealing with duplicate songs in iTunes.

That doesn't remove them.

No. But it makes it a hell of a lot easier to remove them than trusting an "automated" solution.

I have music from a lot of artists that includes a variety of versions of the same piece. A script feels likely to delete multiple versions as "duplicates," especially if it uses iTunes' duplicate finder functionality. On the other hand, when you use that functionality, you can simply mark the "duplicates" you don't want and delete them manually, and you have made sure you only deleted what you intended to. Simple and easy.

This is something I do manually, since I echo ghporter's feelings about scripts (though Doug's site is great). Generally, unless I understand something about the algorithm, I don't really trust sw to "just work."

>>>I use dupeGuru ME from dupeGuru Music Edition - MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC (iTunes) duplicate scanner

I never saw the free script solution and suspect I would have used it. Having said that what I like about dupeGuru is it allows you to fine tune how precisely it compares potential duplicates. Optionally it will save a backup copy of each song it considers a dup.
