Is there any way to set the region code on client MacBooks from the XServe? I've deployed lots of MacBooks and I will shoot myself if I have to go around and touch each one to set its region code since users don't have admin rights.

Not possible on most Macbooks which use Matsushita (Panasonic) drives, which force a reading of the region code even in data mode. There are a limited number of drives for which hacked firmware has been released, so if those computers use the drives that can be hacked, they might be able to use VLC or Mplayer.

Otherwise, he's probably stuck.

You can insert a foreign region code disk, ignore DVD Player when it pops up, and then do whatever you want with it using other programs.
