I really think this is the worst misstep ever to bear the ubiquitous "i" designation from Apple. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure by next release they're going to morph this into a pretty cool application, but that's when they should've released it: next year.
The bleed-off of features is one thing, but I can handle that. What bothers me is the counter intuitive way that my "video" library works--or rather doesn't work. For example, why can't I drag video clips from one project to another? Very annoying, guys. And why does everything take so long? When I import video, I have to sit through a blue status bar. When I "share with media browser"--an annoying step that I didn't have in the last iMovie--I have to wait around for upwards of 15 minutes. That would be bearable if the stupid dialogue box didn't lock out everything else in the program.
Shame on you, Apple, for sending us a "revolutionay, new" version that wasn't ready for prime time.
Oh, why am I taking so much time to gripe about this? Because I'm waiting on a blue status bar!
I wish I hadn't moved all my projects into this version and once this next DVD is done, I think I'll go back to using the previous version.

What do you mean by "still?" I figured you meant still from previous versions, but it sounds like you liked them.

He said the NEW iMovie still sucks, meaning that he gave it another chance and came to the conclusion that still, it sucks.

Its definitely different than the previous versions of iMovie. My guess is a new version of Final Cut Express is on its way. However, I did use the new iMovie 08 to put together a small montage of my daughters' last figure skating competition, and it came out nicely and was pretty ease/quick to do. Granted it wouldn't have been any harder to do on the old iMovie HD 6, but nonetheless was still easy to assemble.

I hope not - I just bought FCE, and it's a very mature and complete application. And even if that were true, I don't think it would be due to, or inspired by this new iMovie. iMovie is a consumer app while FCE is a prosumer to professional level app that is really a slightly paired down version of FCP. Other than both being video editors from Apple, the two apps have little in common. The new iMovie was a total rewrite attempt at making iMovie even easier, which was really an unnecessary undertaking given how much was sacrificed and the fact that iMovie was already easy to use.

The old iMovie and FCE had a lot in common, actually, (FCE was built on iMovie and FCP) and it appears as if the new watered down iMovie is an attempt to drive sales of FCE.
