I am really considering getting iWeb (iLife) to quickly put together a site for photos. I have lots of experience with Dreamweaver, I just don't have a lot of time to work on my own stuff.

I have my own server so I really don't want to have to pony up the $100 for a .Mac account that I wouldn't use accept for the site.

So my question is: What features and functionality do you lose by not posting a site created in iWeb on .mac? Keeping in mind that I love the quick ability to drop photos into the site and have it create an album for me.

Other suggestions?

The .mac photo gallery and one stop publishing are the two biggest features that come to mind.

If you wish to publish a website other then .mac, you'll need to publish it to a folder then ftp it to your web host.

Other then that I'm not really sure what you lose w/o .mac.

You can still create photo galleries and such with iweb.

Right. I have seen that I just publish to a folder then upload. No problem.

I just want to know if there are any specific features (animations, plugins, popup windows, etc) that only work when you use a .mac website.

If you have access to a server I would suggest installing or using Gallery and the free Gallery iPhoto plug-in to publish your photos. It seems to me that this would be a much better system than creating a web site and picking out the parts that have changed or uploading the whole damn thing again every time you add a photo.
