Hello,
a friend of mine is doing a lot of fashion design in her free time and might going to study this. She would like to start doing it on a computer, but she knows neither the appriopriate applications nor which operating system to use. Is Mac or PC better? Which apps are there? How do they differ? And which is your recommendation for a student?

Greetings and thanks in advance,
Steve

The CEO of Apple is asking us whether a Mac or PC is better, I'm in shock.

I'm not exactly sure about the software, but I'd imagine they'd use some sort of CAD/CAM process that is unique to the industry. (Similar to Caddie & competitors for Architecture.) All CAD/CAM software is vector based (as opposed to pixel based) and the industry standard for vector work (on both the Mac and PC platforms) is Adobe Illustrator, so that might be a good place to start.

Not that this is going to be an all of sudden help but your friend could bookmark the links below, there are jobs offering now and then regarding such creative fields where they list the must have software skills you need to apply for…

https://www.inditexjobs.com/en/design/fashion_designer

https://www.inditexjobs.com/en/design/graphic_designer

hint: register there to leave your CV -you don't need to complete the process so don't worry at all-, this way you would be asked about which design apps you can use… these ones are listed:

So besides graphic design apps you can run either under Mac OS or Windows you would like to know a Windows specific app like AccuMark…

Gerber Technology
Gerber Technology
Gerber Technology

But I wouldn't go nuts about that one since I guess that's something she could learn in any fashion design school.

Good luck.
