This is actually a Security post. I believe Hewlett-Packard uses snoopware. My other Mac computer, the workstation with a separate HP scanner and HP printer, suddenly turned itself on all by itself yesterday while I was away. Strange. When I was surfing the web later, my browser ( Firefox) was exceedingly slow. The whole computer seemed slow. I ran Activity Monitor and it red-typed a background process called " HP Product Research" as running, using a big chunk of memory , but "Not Responding". I Forced Quit it, and my Mac went back to running smoothly again .

Has anyone ever heard of HP phoning home ? Or some devious little app spoofing itself as an HP process ??

Guess it's time to try out the beta of " Little Snitch ".
