Hi all,
My Microsoft Autoupdate has been acting strangely:
1--it does not automatically check for updates. Thus, I have to check Mactopia.com, download and install the updates manually
2--When I run the Microsoft AutoUpdate manually, I only see two menus-the Apple menu and AutoUpdate (Under the AutoUpdate menu, I have Services, Hide AutoUpdate, Hide Others, Show All and Quit Autoupdate.
I have also removed the com.microsoft.autoupdate.plist files and emptied the trash.
I have reinstalled Office 2004 by throwing the old copy in the trash and installing a fresh copy from the CD.
AutoUpdate STILL does not behave.
I am absolutely frustrated and annoyed.
Please help

Are you not seeing the AutoUpdate window when you launch it, just the menus?

Hi George Costanza That's right--just the menus--no modal dialog, nothing but just the menus.

Take a peek in Console when you open it and see if there are any messages.
Also, as a bit of consolation... even when it works, it doesn't always find updates. I still have to go to mactopia to manually download an update from time to time.

You can also try creating a new account and launching it there to see if it works. That will narrow down the scope of the problem.

Hi. I tried both. 1--when logged in as the new user, the same thing happened; 2--As I looked at Console, there were no messages relayed that said anything about AutoUpdate. it's as if the log doesn't even shows AutoUpdate being run (unless I'm looking in the wrong place in the Console app's screen).
