I just installed Leopard on my iBook G4 (1.33/768MB) and neither Gimp nor Gimpshop work anymore. I installed X11 from the install DVD but that didn't do anything. When I try and open either one of them up, an x-term window pops up, the app says it's "caching fonts" for a while, then it unexpectedly quits, while X11 sits open. Any suggestions?

In case anyone is still following this thread...

Using GIMP-2.4-rc3 for intel under Leopard, I too had the hang-up at the font caching dialog. Out of curiousity, I went to the terminal and killed the "cache-fonts" process. Gimp startup then continued and ran properly.

Although Gimp was running, performance is really sluggish. I've just purchased a quad-core MacPro with 3GB of RAM and Gimp takes almost 20 seconds to refresh the image when a layer's visibility is switched on/off. Filters are just as slow. With my AMD64 3GHz Linux box, layers are instantaneous and most filter effects are much quicker.

I didn't try the fonts. Looks like I'll be waiting for a macGimp update or Adobe Elements for Intel...
