I am required to keep all my mail going back a number of years, but I don't want to store it on my primary machine. I really want to be able to archive it once a year, and dump the previous year out to an external. I may be called on to search that, so want relatively easy access to it if I need it, but I don't want it on a day-to-day basis - what's the best way to do that?
Thanks!

in 10.5 it's really simple; right-click (or control-click) on any folder(s), and you can archive them, save them wherever, and delete them from mail.

in 10.4 (etc), check versiontracker.com...lots of apps to archive mail...

try this (am not on my mac right now); go to import menu in Mail, choose mbox, and follow the prompts to import that mbox back into mail...
