Last year, Garmin finally got around to sorta-kinda supporting Mac OS X. I used the version 1.0 of their WebUpdater application for updating the firmware on my portable nav. I bricked my StreetPilot c330.

Another Mac, another portable nav and nearly a year later, Garmin's at version 2.0.1 and an overwhelming majority of the feedback on Version Tracker was positive. My experience, not so much.

The WebUpdater hanged at "Erasing" as the blood drained from my face. After waiting more than an hour, I accepted my perceived fate, disconnected the USB cable and had to wait for the battery to drain on the GPS, as it wouldn't respond to any other input.

Amazingly, after recharging this morning, the thing fired right up and works. No updated software, but it works.

I'm not touching the WebUpdater again. Garmin, I give up.

Which gps was it? I have a Nuvi 660 and have used webupdater a few times. I even got the map update this year and it has a Mac program for uploading the maps on the DVD. It updated my firmware and loaded the new maps with no problem. You ask me Garmin is doing great so far. I'm still waiting for a Mac version of their mapping software...
But I guess it should also be noted that the Garmin webupdater is still at a Beta stage...

StreetPilot c330.

Your experience would seem to be typical of the new software. The VersionTracker comments about it were about 90% positive.

I guess I'm one of the unlucky few.

I didn't have any luck updating my C330 under OSX either. I just fired up bootcamp and loaded the Windows updater and it worked fine.

Okay, I lied.

Unwilling to leave well-enough alone, I put the Garmin WebUpdater software on the iMac and tried again. It worked flawlessly this time and now I have the latest software on my StreetPilot c330.

Funny it worked on the G5, but not on the Core 2 Duo MacBook.
