Hi, I have a copy of Microsoft Student and Teacher Edition 2004, and I'm trying to install it on my intel macbook running OS X Tiger. When I try to run the installer, it blinks a couple times and then goes away. I've run the test drive, and it works fine, so it's not a problem with Rosetta. I've tried uninstalling the Test Drive Software, repairing permissions, and repairing the hard disk. Any other suggestions?

don't run the installer, just drag-and-drop the office folder from the CD to your Applications folder.

When I use the drag-and-drop install, the same thing happens to the applications.

ok

go to their web site and download a couple updates
first, this one: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

run it

second, this one: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloa...e2004_1139.xml

this should allow it to run.

A similar thing happened to me when I had to reinstall 2004 from the original disc onto a new Macbook. It wouldn't run until I'd installed all available updates.

Which version?

Make sure you update the system - there was a mean Rosetta bug in one of the versions.

Here is what I had to do to get Office 2004 working properly.

1. Drag the office folder to applications. Do not run or open anything.
2. Install Office2004-1135UpdateEN.dmg (This is a cumulative update)
3. Install Office2004-1136UpdateEN.dmg
4. Install Office2004-1137UpdateEN.dmg
5. Install Office2004-1138UpdateEN.dmg
6. Install Office2004-1139UpdateEN.dmg

That should be all the patches that you need. 1135 is a cumulative update so it should have all previous patches but the rest of them are not cumulative as far as I know. I was having the same problem that you were having until I installed all those patches in order.

The updates can be found here:

Sorry, but I've tried the updating. Didn't work either...this is beyond annoying me right now.

You say it's a copy.

Is it a copy ?

Perhaps that's the problem.

Not an illegal copy. Just a regular disk that I bought on Amazon- and yes, I did try getting a second disk.

drhdylan88 > I had a similar problem installing Office on a coworkers MBP a few montsh ago and ended up having to call MS support.

THey had me do the following
1) uninstall office using the uninstaller
2) create a new user with admin privileges in OS X
3) log in as the new user
4) install office off the CD (I always run the installer instead of dragging the folder personally, but do whichever method works for you).

After it is installed you should be able to run Office apps but will get a framework error. The framework error goes away after running the updates.
