I received the iLife '08 upgrade on my recently purchased iMac, as per sig line.

Installation apparently ok, but iDVD would not run.

Partially opened, then collapsed.

I re-installed, appeared to install extra Garageband bits, but iDVD still not working.

I did an  software update check, iDVD was one of the programme updated.

iDVD now ok, any suggestions as to what the problem may have been ?

I did take the precaution of copying all iLife '06 application to a DVD before upgrading! to iLife '08, I still prefer iMovie 3, for the simple fact it IS destructive editing, and frees up HDD space as I edit and re-edit my many home movies.

I also found it very confusing initially that most of the iLife '08 applications were actually version 7xx, (+I) I even rechecked that the disk installation header was iLife '08.

Only when installed, did the applications confirm iLife '08 versions.

iDVD had that issue, and the update fixed it. Many people were complaining that it didn't work.

FWIW, on every fresh iLife Install I've ever done, at least one program has had something wrong with it. Just leaving it alone for a few days seemed to fix it
