I have several video clips I took on my digital camera that I've converted to M4V so I can save and play them through iTunes/Frontrow on my MBP for family.

I'm putting together a DVD now of footage I've taken over the past year, and for the "special feature" section, I want to take all the M4v clips I have collected (bunch of 30-90 second clips) and place them there.

I did a bit of research, and apparently Apple doesn't allow converting videos in iTunes to iMovie... which makes sense I suppose, but now I'm kind of stuck.

Any ideas on how I can convert these video clips. There's no DRM because they are off my own digital camera, but the clips have long been erased off the memory cards

If they play in iTunes you should be able to just import them in iMovie (from the actual file, not iTunes integration), but if you can't there's always ffmpegx.

awesome, importing them from iMovie worked. I kept looking in the media section (iTunes library) and couldn't get it to work.

Thanks for the tip mduell!

after I finished playing around with iMovie I went to import my creation into iDVD...

turns out iDVD itself let me import the movies I had in iTunes. I dont know if this is b/c they are DRM free, I can't verify b/c all we can buy on iTunes in Canada is music videos, and quite frankly, I can't justify paying for a music video.
