With Firefox 2.0.0.9 on my Mac, I have noticed that if I click a link in a newsgroup message, Firefox will open, but only to the home page. I have to click the link again to make the linked page open. This does not happen in Firefox for Windows (same version). I have also noted that when Mac Firefox opens, there is a brief flash when a white window opens and closes, and then it pops up the private data clearing message box. Why is that? Is there some setting that does that?

I did some more poking around and I think I found the answer. The setting extensions.update.notifyUser being true is checking for updates to extensions and causing the flash, and also preventing a link from opening directly. I set it to false. Being asked on startup to clear privacy data still happens sometimes. The Windows version did not have that setting. It seems weird that checking for updates should cause hassles like that.
