Is there any software that will allow me to view the sound waves of an mp3 file and colorize the wave by sound. Like red as the most intense and pink as the least.

Thanks, im in a crunch right now

Very general title there... It would help to have a more specific one in the future. Now do you want a program that shows sound waves so that YOU can colorize them, or a program that shows an colorizes them automatically?

Any sound editor (e. g. Audacity) can show the waveform of a sound. You can then colorize it with Photoshop and a gradient overlay.

That's not what he wants, I think.

It sounds like he's looking for Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), which is a method of displaying frequency response over time.

something like this:

Audacity (which is excellent and free) can do this, however.

In the Audacity window:

Click on the track name to the left of the waveform (where it says "Moonglow" in this screenshot) and select "Spectrum" instead of "Waveform". FFT settings can be changed in Audacity's preferences.

There you go!

(Please note, however, that your thread title sucks complete ass and that it is thus completely by coincidence that I actually read it.)

analogika, thanks for all the help. I appreciate it. I'll check it out. Also I will have a better title next time.

And maybe next time Kevin won't be a douchbag. :-)
