Ive got several pdf's that I need to have spotlight work on - they are currently in .pdf form so I need a a reliable OCR program. To my shock, there's readiris - which is at least UB but slow, unreliable. Abbysoft but has not been updated for years and omnipage which I have not tried, but has not gotten good feedback on VT. Are there any others out there that at least work decently and are made for the mac?

By the way I adobe professional and tried their ocr but it doesn't seem to work on a pdf that is already made....

Spotlight already works with PDF, as text in PDFs is usually... text. Are your PDFs actually images? If so, I'm fairly sure there's absolutely no way you're going to find a Spotlight plugin that will perform OCR on demand, especially not on PDFs.

There are utilities out there that can extract images from PDFs. That would get you one step closer, but I unfortunately I don't know of any OCR software for OS X.
