Hi,

I recently switched to Mac (Leopard) and I'm looking for a "Windows Grep" (wingrep.com) alternative for OS X.

Tried TextWrangler but it won't search .tpl files and its painfully slow compared to WinGrep. Is there any better GUI-based grep search tool to search inside HTML, PHP and .tpl files?

I would appreciated any help. Many thanks.

What exactly are you looking for? Do you need regexp search or something, and if not, what exactly do you need beyond what Spotlight provides?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Yes has CharlesS say's you can use Spotlight to search for phrases, just put in quotation-marks " around the search you want. Spotlight has always looked in PDF, RTF & other's even in Tiger but then you didn't have to use ".
Don't forget to use the Finder's Help-menu>Index>Spotlight

Spotlight in Leopard is increasingly impressive. Now it's usably fast and I'm sometimes really amazed at what it finds.

For example, I did a search today that found a match in the ID3 lyrics tags of several of my iTunes songs. What's especially impressive to me is that Spotlight finds lyrics in ID3 tags... something that iTunes itself doesn't do.

I'd love to have the ability to build thematic playlists by starting with matched terms in lyrics...
