iMovie 08 will not launch on my Mac. I uninstalled it (well dragged it to the trash) and reinstalled it and applied all of the updates but still it will not launch. The dock icon will bounce for a minute or so and that is all. I have to force quit it, even though it technically is not running. I am running 10.5.1 on my Mac Mini with 2gb of ram. What else can I try?

Try repairing permissions.

go to your user/library/preferences folder and delete the com.apple.imovie.plist file.

That is weird. You might try starting from your install disc and running a disk repair. I'm running out of idea's here.

Can you try a different user? Maybe your user prefs have become corrupt

Here's a link from apple discussions that had the same problem and got it solved. Strange some of the users solved it by creating a new display profile? Anyway take a look and see if you can find something here:
Apple - Support - Discussions - iMovie will not launch! ...

I would call Apple and tell them. There must be something wrong with the install disc. Or you can always back up your stuff, wipe the drive and start over fresh with a clean OS X and reinstall iMovie and everything else. I don't know what else to suggest. Sorry....

Maybe if I reinstall Quicktime? What is the best and safest way to do that?

The "experts" over at the Apple Support Quicktime forum say the single BEST way is to do an archive and install with your Leopard disc.
