Hey, I'm a new member here, and I registered in order to ask this question:

I have a friend in the home improvement business whose website I am currently building. He envisioned a page with tutorial videos available for download at a per-minute fee.

I am not much of a web designer, and so use iWeb to easily compose the web page. I have no knowledge of any coding languages. I was wondering how I would implement this pay-for-download idea through iWeb, if it is possible. I'd need to figure out how to (1) receive the money (PayPal or something similar may help with this, but I don't know how to link any buttons into the website - I don't even have an account with them; if there is another way, please suggest), and (2) make the videos available for download automatically once payment is made.

If you all have any suggestions, tips, advice, etc., please share. I appreciate any help received.

Don't use iWeb for this - you need a backend that can do the downloading and money side of things - I am sure someone here can recommend something.

There was a host who hosted your site on mac server and I want to say had an integrated shopping cart you could get i know it's not isale but it was something similar to that which was already installed just had to pay a monthly fee. You could also look at rapid weaver. They have some plugins for shopping carts.

Hmm... is there a way to do this on a GoDaddy account with RapidWeaver or something? I'm not sure if he'd go for $30/mo. to host his vids. I don't think he was thinking of charging that much.

The PayLoom plug-in from YourHead will allow you to set up a basic online store in RapidWeaver - view the screen cast in this blog post at YourHead and see if it is adequate for your needs:

Web Store Screencast | screencast | YourHead

Edit: note, the plug-in is no longer in beta and is at version 1.1. The screen cast is from a few months ago.
