Hi all
I'm writing from Australia - found you on a google search (apps design for ipod). My job is in the coaching field (sports) - and I want to be able to use the IPOD touch as a storage/viewing device for a sport/coaching curriculum.
Not being vary savvy in this area - after some google research I;ve found out a little about apps - jailbreaking - and more importantly, the news that apple will be coming out with the SDK for the ipod this year.
I am not sure where to start with this - google has led me to you - I am looking for someone who will be able to custom design an app for me that I can load onto the IPOD touch to access my coaching materials in much the same way as one does on a DVD. That same kind of interface - is what I am looking for. Basically my coaching materials are about 120 MP4 movie files - that I want to ORGANIZE on ipods for other hundreds of other coaches in my industry.
I apologize for wasting your time here (if that be the case) - so is this something that someone here can do or is interested in doing - or should I chase up some tech person in India or something ...
Many thanks in advance,
Best wishes from downunder,
John Will

You do know the iPod already has an interface for accessing and viewing MP4 videos, right? A smartly organized set of playlists and properly tagged video files would go a long way to achieve what you want.

I say you could do with a way to get the playlists to follow the files so they will be organized in the other coaches iTunes, and synced to their iPods.

At any rate, since this is something you're going to advocate your fellow coaches use, I'd wait 'till Apple releases the dev kits before pursuing it. Who knows if "jailbroken" iPod touches will become bricks in a future firmware update.

One alternative would be to distribute your material as a video podcast via iTunes, in a few different formats so that people can access it on hardware other than the iPod (e.e. Sony PSP, a High Def version they can watch on their computer or TV, etc). The software and hardware you can obtain for creating video podcasts is cheap and easy-to-use and, if you have them already, you can do it now using iMovie and Garageband.
