If the computers were both on the same network, then its pretty simple to share an iPhoto library or an iTunes library.
As for something like a .mac sync, it wouldn't be hard to create, but just think about how slow it would be and how much online space would be required. My iPhoto library is over 22GB in size (over 8,800 pictures). There's virtually no way to sync that via the internet in a timely fashion with the connectivity speeds most people have access to. At 1.5Mbit/sec upload speed (Comcast cable), it would take me well over 32 hours to upload, assuming I get continuous full speed upload (which we all know doesn't happen in most locations).
However, what you could do is keep a copy of your iPhoto library on a portable external hard drive and take that along with you when you need it. Not exactly automatic, but given how large just one multi-megapixel photo is, a library of a couple hundred or thousands would be just too large to sync through the internet.
And same goes for many people's iTunes library. Apple sells 80GB and 160GB iPods. There's no efficient way to sync something like this over the internet. My iTunes library is 23GB of just music. 59GB if you include movies, TV shows and music videos.
