Are there any apps that will let me play x.264 1080p content at a full framerate? Container is MKV.

Playback works fine on my 1.8 C2D PC with MPC and CoreAVC. Is there an equivalent app/codec for OS X?

Have you tried VLC? VideoLAN - Free Software and Open Source video streaming solution for every OS!

Mind you, the .mkv container apparently sucks complete ass (on the Mac, at least).

Others have tried VLC on OS X and IIRC it just can't keep up. As far as I know there isn't anything as performant/efficient as MPC/CoreAVC for OS X.

Or you could try Quicktime with Perian. That set up allows me to play virtually everything I watch including MKV's no problems.

As was said earlier VLC can do a decent job also, but much prefer the Quicktime Perian combo.

perian has also just been updated to version 1.1, supposedly with major performance enhancements.

In my experience I can second that!
