Guys, this is a really confusing issue and just recently popped up.

Alright, so a few days after I installed 10.5.2, I go on the internet, and, all of a sudden, my CPU fan will slowly begin to whirl up. No big deal. But then I stay on the usual CPU-intensive sites, and my fan stays at maximum whirl (and it's somewhat loud, more so very annoying). Usually, when I leave those sites, my CPU fan drops back down and eases off. But this time, and even after a restart, the fan, once it really gets going, stays at max. speed.

I tried turning the Energy Saver thing to Reduced, instead of Automatic, and either [1] the fan will, ever so slowly, receed, or [2] the fan will stay at maximum speed, and the Reduced settings never take effect.

According to Activity Monitor, even after closing my browser and logging off, there is minimal CPU activity, but yet the CPU reads 100%.

In MenuMeters, the CPU reads 100%, but my disk activity does not read high or maximum; it reads very low to nothing.

Guys, what is going on???? Is this a serious/minor and/or temporary issue, or what?

Mac OS X 10.5.2
iMac G5 1.6GHz

Edit: The reason for why I have this thread in Applications is because I couldn't figure out which section was best suited for System Operability, and "Mac OS X" didn't seem relevant enough, whereas I checked Activity Monitor and MenuMeters to get information.

Also, even after restarting my computer and using Reduced mode, the CPU keeps whirling up EVEN PAST where it's no longer supposed to keep whirling up while in Reduced mode (it's supposed to get up to a certain speed, and then that's it), although it whirled past ever so slightly, and then finally backed off a bit.

I'm getting very freaked out by this... issue, problem, whatever you want to call it...weirdness.

In Activity Monitor, did you make sure that "All Processes" is selected?

Mac OS X is probably a better forum, but still:

In Activity Monitor, you can sort by CPU usage. That might help showing which app is the problem.

The SMU (the unit that, among other things, runs the fan) can get confused. The solution is to reset it, which you do by turning the computer completely off and unplugging it for a minute or so. Some people want you to hold the power button in when connecting the cable - don't know if that makes a difference.

Cleaning the intake vents can make a huge difference. With the Mac turned off, vacuum underneath.

No silver bullet, but try these things and see if they help.

"All Processes"

That needs to be menu-barred

So, apparently every time I start up my computer (just started today...) the item PrintMgrSomthng by user _cjr (wtf?!) would eat up 68% of my CPU.

I cleaned inside my computer 2 weeks ago, not a dust issue.

I bet that I know why.
Anyways, short and sweet.
But I never saw "All Processes" before until now. Oops.

Did you do what I did?

"All Processes," then Quit the process that's eating your CPU up. (Quitting Application Enhancer won't help.)
