Folks,
After 10 years away from the Mac, my new Mac Pro arrived the other day and, like Darth Vader removing his helmet and becoming Anakin again, I've returned from the Dark Side.
In the process of moving my files over, I've brought thousands of files including files from multiple back up disks, etc. I'm chagrined to report that my back up process on the PC was not well thought out.
Now I'd like to make a clean start, rid my self of all of my duplicate files and consolidate my remaining files into an organized directory that I can then back up in a consistent and organized fashion. My great fear though is that, in the process of getting organized, I'll chuck something that isn't a duplicate. This is especially true of my 10k + photos which are named with such cryptic names as image_9903.cr2.
Where can you help? I've searched the forum to see if any one has discussed finding duplicate files previously and have come up with naught. Do any of you have recommendations on a method for finding exact duplicates (binary comparison) within OSX or can you recommend a good utility that does the same?
Many thanks in advance for your assistance!
Jack
