In Entourage 2008, the inbox is empty, but the left column shows Inbox(1) in bold as if there is an unread msg. I have rebuilt the database with no luck.
Is this an IMAP account? Entourage 2008 doesn't always update the counts in the folder list pane. Try this: Right-click on Inbox and choose Refresh Message List.
If it's an exchange account, its probably because a message got recalled. Entourage updates the folder list, but it does not download the e-mail. Log into OWA to see if this is the case.
