Can I install Pro Tools HD in Leopard 10.5.2 and will it run by itself, or do I need an interface in order for it to work? All I want to do is to be able to take my school projects and be able to mix them at home. I will not be doing any recording through Pro Tools.

I have a Mac Pro 2.8ghz x 8 and 8gb of Ram, running Leopard 10.5.2 . I would rather just buy an Mbox Pro 2 and work with LE , but as you know LE is not officially supported in Leopard yet.

*ahem*

"Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software works with Mac OS X 10.5.1 only, and is NOT compatible with Apple’s new Mac OS X 10.5.2 release. Please do not update your OS until we’ve made an official announcement about compatibility."

Also, I can't tell from the website whether ProTools is available without any hardware.

If not, you might as well install the interface that comes with the software license.

Well, I know that about 3 or 4 years ago Pro Tools required the hardware in order to start up, for what that's worth.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Thanks all. I did catch that warning about 10.5.2 after posting this. I believe you can purchase Pro Tools HD software by itself for $199 at Welcome to Sweetwater.com | Call Us @ 800 222 4700

I know for a fact that Pro Tools LE requires you to have one of their proprietary I/Os , but I am hoping that Pro Tools HD does not require you to. Can anyone else shed some light on this ?

Pro Tools HD requires at least one HD Core or HD Accel card ($7,995) AND at least one interface: 192 I/O, 192 Digital I/O, 96 I/O, or 96i I/O ($1,995 to $3,995).

You cannot run Pro Tools HD without this hardware. Period. It will not start.

Ah.

They don't call them the Microsoft of Audio Production for nothing, I suppose.
