I have been using the freeware iSquint to convert .flv Flash Video , such as YouTube, to MPEG-4 in order to burn a DVD in Toast 7 . However, that no longer works. The resulting iSquint conversions come up as empty black windows with no audio, but they will play beautifully in VLC and other media players. I suspect the reason is QuickTime, not Toast . Recent QuickTime 7.x upgrades seem to dislike the "old" MPEG-4 codec . So I am wondering if the commercial version of iSquint, called VisualHub ( $ 24.00) will work. The forums and support at TechSpansion , maker of iSquint and VisualHub, are not helpful in resolving this. It's only begun occurring with the last two minor upgrades of QT7. I'd like to know before I buy VisualHub.

I've found a solution to my own post here, about iSquint video conversions to MP4 from Flash .flv not being useable for video DVD burning in Toast.

For some reason , changing the ".mp4" file extension to ".3gp" restores the functionality. I have never heard of the 3GP file format, but it works as a substitute for MPEG-4. I just don;t know why it works.

I am glad that somebody can get iSquint to work...I tried for days to get it to convert just one (out of five) .flv videos, and I'd get a different error message for each setting I tried. Oh, and the "support" forums were useless as well.

I guess forking over the dough is the only way to perform that action on this Mac...
