I have TV shows which play in both Quicktime and iTunes. They're ".mov" files. They won't upload to my iPhone however.

Using iTunes, I right-click and select "Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone." And it takes a couple of hours. Is that right? I'm using the latest version of iTunes on Leopard on a G5 iMac. However, it's not noticeably faster on my C2D MacBook.

While it's working, my G5's resources are maxed out. iTunes has seized 47% and the iMac's fans are working pretty hard.

I get that converting video is processor-intensive, but is this behavior normal? I guess the four 1-hour TV episodes (actually 44 minutes ea.) I planned to throw on the iPhone for the day will have to go with me tomorrow. I never knew I needed to keep a day free just to convert them.

With the original open in QuickTime Player, press Command i and make note of what is shown in the Format section of the info window.

Yes, that's normal. Neither G5s nor Quicktime are very quick at media encoding.
