so i finally just upgraded my G4 mdd to tiger (from panther)which i got through the apple store. the sales person said that if i wanted to continue to use iLife i would need to get 06 because 04 (which i have) would not work on tiger. so i ordered it also. tiger got here first and i installed it and just thought let me see about this. i opened up all of my 04 iLife apps and they all seem to work. they all open up.

did i buy iLife 06 unnecessarly?

Where did you even order iLife 06? The current version is iLife 08 and it runs on Tiger. That version would not be an unnecessary purchase since it's a big step ahead of iLife 04.

If you really ordered the old iLife 06 and you are content with iLife 04 then I would send it back (and maybe later consider upgrading to 08).

@TETENAL
i ordered 06 from the 800 apple store cause the salesdude said i was going to need it for tiger. i think i'm going to return it since 04 works for me just fine for me. if ordered it from apple over the phone, can i return it to a store or do i gave to mail it back?

i think i'll keep 04 since i know my camcorder sync's up with it fine.

@turtle777
they charged me $79. they also still charged me $129 for tiger. weak!

You got Tiger and iLife 06 from the Apple Store?

That's really odd, because Apple hasn't sold iLife 06 since last August, and they haven't sold Tiger since last October.

Return it. Or get iLife 08 instead.

It's true. When you call the online Apple Store, you can get older versions of software, but at full price. You can even get OS 9 for $99.

...feelin a bit hosed! ha

are there many must have advancements between 04 and 08?
also, like i previously stated, i was just going to stick with 04 since my camcorder works with iMovie. would it be wrong to assume that if it works w/iMovie 04 it will work with 08?

iPhoto 08 is immensely better than iPhoto 06 even, but I don't know how well it runs on a computer without a CoreImage supporting graphics card. iMovie 08 should support all camcorders previous iMovie versions did. It's a completely different program though (for better and for worse). That's why owning iLife 08 qualifies for a free download of iMovie 06. iMovie 08 definitely will not run on a Mac without a CoreImage supporting graphics card.

Check the system requirements:

OS 9, yes (though still?). Older versions of the Mac OS X, is news to me. Are you sure?

iMovie 08 will not run on your machine.

However, if you own iMovie 08, you are entitled to a free download of iMovie 06, which will support all cameras supported by 04, and more, and should run okay on your machine, AFAIK.
