I know it's not true for everyone, but it is in my area. All Peer-to-Peer traffic is 100% blocked 24/7. Nothing works anymore. Ironically it hasn't helped with the connection being complete s**t in the evening.
I read someplace that there was a new encrypted BitTorrent client that can bypass all the Comcast crap, anyone know where I can download it?
I'd get DSL but I'm too far from the c/o. The fastest I can get is a 384/128 line. On the other hand, it'd wouldn't be any slower than Comcast during the evening and my internet connection wouldn't be tampered with. Sigh.

I haven't seen any new bypass-capable torrent clients -- only discussions about the development/roadmap.
An alternative would be a paid VPN service. It sucks, I know, but it's my only way to get through. I use VPNout.

I miss the good ol' days of Hotline before the Windows version was released.

I never had a problem (not even slowed downloads or uploads) with uTorrent on Comcast, but I dumped Comcast about 3 weeks ago.

Hey,
as it stands right now, I'm qualified to speak about this. I've got comcast as well. If you have an intel mac the answer is simple. Involved, but simple.
The system I've been using is to run XP in parallels and use utorrent. Set up a folder in the parallels shared folders and it'll show up as a networked drive in My Computer. Tell utorrent to use it. You're done. If you need help with anything about it let me know.
Otherwise you're looking at using transmission. In transmission's prefs, tell it to NOT use UNencrypted clients, and to prefer encrypted ones. Sadly the Mac community doesn't have anything close to utorrent, although they're supposed to be releasing a mac client. I heard that late last year, and haven't heard a word since. Other people have used tomato torrent, bitrocket, and even azurus, but they all kind of suck next to utorrent's power. Is my method of running parallels and utorrent worth it? Yes. If you need more help just PM me.

What does µtorrent have that makes it worth it?

I don't see how changing clients would help with blocking. Even encryption doesn't help. Comcast is targeting the packet/connection activity that happens outside of encryption.
Clients won't be able to circumvent Comcast's shaping until the BT protocols are redesigned.

Some clients may be able to use unblocked ports that BT and others can't. Just a theory.
OlePigeon, how recent is the info that you can only get such a slow DSL connection? I know that all around here AT&T is busting their butts to expand their coverage by installing remote terminals everywhere-and most of the online tools that tell you where you are in relation to the CO don't take RTs into account. In other words, how accurate and reliable is your 384/128 quote?

OK... as far as utorrent is concerned.... all I know is that I did side by side tests with several mac clients, then tried utorrent. Utorrent just blew their speeds out of the water. I was getting about a 1mbs with utorrent, using the same torrents i loaded into the mac clients, and utorrent just did so much better. But a word of caution. For utorrent to get that kind of speed, you have to do 2 things. Go to Options>Speed Guide and check USE ENCRYPTION and then open a port for it on a fire wall.
You knjow what.. I'm going to write up a tutorial later this week for this, as it can be kinda tricky to figure out. But I got it working just fine. I'll write it up and post it on my dotmac page and you can follow it step by step.
