Hello everybody, and happy easter!

I'm fighting with a exernal drive, a LaCie Rugged 250Gb. The drive (partitioned it in 2, 70Gb dos and 170 Mac for time machine) works perfectly and reliably when it comes to the dos partition, but it's not reliable at all when using it via time machine.
Sometimes it would stop backupping and it would be ejected completely from the system (not appearing anymore on the desktop, neither partition, without asking). Time machine would then be dead. I fixed it once or twice with diskwarrior, but this has got troublesome.
I did a long format through windows yesterday, and a check of bad sectors resulting in no problem, but only via XPs elementary tools.

I repartitioned the drive, inverting the partitions (Win is the first now, occupying the first part of the surface, Mac is second), and already filled without a problem 40G on the fat parition.
I'll be keeping tabs on how time machine works in this configuration, but i'm also worried there might be real problems with the drive of which I'm unaware.
Anyone knows how to thoroughly check a disk under MacOs?
And how to check Smart status for a USB disk (diskutility won't do that...)

Thanks a lot!
It's important for me... I bought a disk for real backup, and now I feel like am endangering all my files... not a nice thought!

Lory
