NOT mine. I'm happy with my mail.app. A friend is running Office X and has happily plowed through the 2GB limit for Entourage db's. Predictably the database has fallen over. I copied it over to my mac and ran the database utility from my copy of 2004 over it. It said it had repaired it but in fact it failed to recover any data (not, I read, uncommon).

At first I thought to import the mail into mail but that requires entourage to open to do it's work. Any ideas on this, commercial entourage db recovery utilities, sneaky ways around this via other mail applications?

And yes, her backups were/are woeful. Next week I'm helping instal a Time capsule and airport network throuhout the house to keep her and her husbands Macs backed up but for now that horse is waay out of the stable and over the horizon.

When Mr. Gates decides that the database is hosed, it stays hosed. Trying to open it with Office 2004 was a good idea, importing it into another email app does require Entourage to try and subsequently fail. I have never had any luck with recovering Office X databases. Always seems to create/rebuild/recreate a totally useless file. Back up is a problem too, because it is one file. So a tiny little 4k email will trick the backup program to copy the entire thing. Mail and Thunderbird make buckets of separate files so that backup is easier, and the chance of losing everything is much less. Good luck!

Yeah, all of the above is why I ditched Entourage.

Gawd, what a nightmare with TM. Can you imagine ?

2 GB database uses 216GB in space after a month
