Should I buy this app or is there a Mac alternative that behaves similarly or even better ?

Recently had to help some one submit a grant application, but rather disconcerting to me was that the only acceptable format for submitting grant entries was specified as Powerpoint.

I had not used that app before doing this and was rather surprised by its fluid behavior especially with regard to resizing images ?

I've never been any kind of a fan for Microsoft and have only used their apps when others I help out request that I do.

Keynote is great - Apple

NeoOffice is decent.

A lot depends on what you're doing.

Imo, if you're sharing documents with others using Office in your professional life, you need to have the compatible tools, even if it's just to double check that what you're sending and receiving is sane. If you submit an application for a grant made by non-PowerPoint and that non-PP app didn't export correctly, do you want to risk the grant over that? Hopefully the answer is "no".

I hate MS as much as anyone, but I still go nuts when collaborating with someone and they tell me that a 3rd party has sent us "broken" slides only to find out they are viewing the slides in OpenOffice which is missing (some feature).

Grants in PowerPoint? WTF?

And you've never used PowerPoint? What rock in Mozambique have you been living under?

Ok, just kidding. Keynote, which is part of iWork '08, can save in PowerPoint format and open PowerPoints. That is PowerPoint format from before Microsoft's newest version, for which they've established a new file format which is driving much of the Windows world batty.

Now, PowerPoint as part of MS Office costs hundreds, and iWork is $80. UNLESS, you're a student at a university and then you can probably get Office for cheaper than iWork.

So, if this bizarre Grant person is using PowerPoint from the latest Office release, then you'll need that. If not, and you can't get the student discount, then Keynote should work and would be much cheaper.

Goodnight.
