In Mail v3.2 preferences, from the drop down menu, I select Mail v3.2 as the default email reader. But the next time I open Mail’s Preferences, the default email reader is shown as v2.1.3.

I have deleted the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, but that did not help.

I do not have Mail v2.1.3 on my machine (only v3.2), so how can I (even) have an option to use that as the default?

Any suggestions? Indeed I am confused.

In case anyone stumbles upon this thread…

I happened upon the solution (I think):

Quite incidentally to my problem, I rebuilt the Launch Services Database. Bingo! Problem resolved.

Apparently, the drop down menu remembered the previous path (to Mail) and that’s what was being revealed.
