hi all,
i need to transfer my adobe/macromedia software from my macbook pro to my powerbook but alas i no longer have the cd. is there a way i can transfer it to the powerbook aside from shelling out the cash for new software?

You can try copying the folder and apps manually to the new powerbook.

I'm not sure if those pieces of software install anything outside of the /Application/ folder. I think Adobe software is self-repairing, so it should work.

thanks turtle. i've actually tried that. i copied the adobe folder onto a cd and tried to copy it onto the other machine but it gave me errors =\ i was thinking maybe i could connect both machines via ethernet cable and try to transfer that way?

You could try the direct (ethernet) route, but I'm not sure it's gonna make a difference.

If the app installer put away files in your /Library/ or ~/Library/ folders, it's going to be hard to find all those pieces and copy it manually over.

The other question is: how old are those apps ? Are you sure they work for your Intel Macbook ? Perhaps you would need to force the app to use Rosetta.

good question. my macbook pro is intel and powerbook is still g4. i have adobe cs2 and macromedia studio 8. they should be compatible w/g4 right? the apps are not very old...

Yes, they are compatible with G4. But they might have issues with Intel Macs. That's why forcing them to use Rosetta sometimes helps.

bigger question, how do i initiate the connection between the two computers =\ sorry, i've never done this before.

Firewire target disk mode - for the one you want to act as an external drive. Hold down the t key at startup, then connect them via firewire.

Migration Assistant seems like a logical (and free) option, assuming you have an up-to-date OS X install.

wish i had a firewire cable. i only have ethernet. will that do?
