When I went back into my Imovie project it comes up with a pop-up saying my project was last saved using an older version of Imovie and if I continue it may not be able to be read. I continued and now all my clips etc are in the trash and the project is empty. Is there a way to get my original project back?

You should have a project folder somewhere, maybe in ~/Movies, where it keeps all your clips. Look for it and burrow through the folders to see if your clips are still there.
Thanks for your response most appreciated. The clips are in the trash which I can retrieve. But I now have to go back in and put it all together again. 6mths work. I do think that my project is a little too 'sophisticated' maybe for the program.
